Outsourcing
At this point in terms of the global software industry it does not appear that Indian software developers are an immediate threat to the Unites States software industry. The two software development locations are countries providing a vastly different type of service to the global arena. If we are only talking specifically about the highest levels of software engineers in India who graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), then there may be a threat to that same specific group that exists in the United States in terms of jobs. |

Vodafone Essar is to outsource all its IT operations to IBM India in a deal designed to further enhance its service to customers. The pact has been constructed on a risk-sharing basis, under the control of stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The 5-year pact is aimed to ensure scalable, flexible, and resilient Information Technology (IT) support for the quick rollout of new network infrastructure. The deal is expected to cover more varied services to customers with greater cost efficiencies to Vodafone Essar. |

Anand Giridharadas explains how India is starting to outsource its jobs. The author’s tone is ironic about India outsourcing because India is the number one location for outsourcing. He focuses on one technology company, Infosys. Infosys is outsourcing its work to less developed countries, as well as “states that are less developed,” such as Georgia. Companies like Goldman Sachs outsource their work to Infosys, in India, and then Infosys outsources that work to offices in poorer countries such as Thailand. |
