India’s first SEZ dedicated to aerospace industry launched

Bangalore: The country’s offset programme, which requires overseas suppliers of Defence equipment to source a portion of their contract from domestic sources, is resulting in the modernisation of the aerospace industry in India, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel has said.

Mr. Patel was speaking at the inauguration of the country’s first Special Economic Zone dedicated to the aerospace industry at Hattargi, 37 km from Belgaum, on Saturday. The SEZ is promoted by Quest Global, an aerospace engineering and manufacturing company.

India gold futures may hit new record high; copper flat

MUMBAI, Nov 12 (Reuters) - India's gold futures may continue their record breaking spree on Thursday bolstered by a weak dollar overseas, enhancing the yellow metal's appeal as an alternative investment, analysts said.

The benchmark December gold MAUZ9 on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) closed 0.8 percent higher at 16,760 rupees per 10 grams on Wednesday, after hitting a record high of 16,788 rupees.

December gold is likely to open at 16,800 rupees per 10 grams, said Aurobinda Prasad, head of research, Karvy Comtrade.

Vodafone doubles cost cuts to £2bn and eyes jobs

Vodafone, the world's biggest telecoms operator by market value, today hinted at fresh job cuts after doubling its cost-cutting programme to £2 billion amid a sharp fall in revenues from its key UK market.

The mobile giant, which has already culled hundreds of jobs in the past year, said that it was looking to extend its ambitious £1 billion cost-cutting plan by a further £1 billion by 2012.

French firm pushes carbon capture solution at US coal plant

NEW HAVEN, West Virginia — Eyeing lucrative markets in China, India and beyond, French firm Alstom on Friday unveiled the world's largest carbon capture facility at a coal plant -- a technology backers hope will fuel a new multi-billion dollar industry and keep the coal industry alive.

Banking that coal power plants will come under legal and financial pressure to reduce emissions as part of efforts to reduce global warming, the pilot facility captures and stores around 100,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide a year from West Virginia's Mountaineer plant.
